Is Nokia trying to make a comeback with their brand to rival the recent smartphone trends? Let’s see what we know so far about these future phones.
Some people have been waiting for years for the next big step for the Finnish brand, Nokia. Thus, Nokia has confirmed that it will release at least two Android phones in 2017. Two of these are rumored for early 2017 while at least one more phone to rival all coming by the end of 2017.
There will be two models upon release: a more budget mid-ranger and an innovative commanding phone that most are excited about. This will be the one that truly tries to rival the likes of Apple’s iPhone and Samsung’s Galaxy S8.
Per HMD’s Chief Executive, Arto Nummela these phones will, “be premium quality and a design that people will immediately recognize as Nokia.” Regarding competitive pricing and specs, he stated, “Stability, quality, reliability, and then we’re bringing in innovation where it matters the most for the consumer, and removing the clutter. This will be seen through the Nokia line up coming to life again.”
SPECS:
There have been early rumored specs for these phones that have included
Lower tier:
· 5in 1080p resolution display
· Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 1.4GHz octa-core processor
· Adreno 505 GPU
· 2GB of RAM
· 16GB onboard storage
· 13MP primary camera
· 8MP front-facing camera
· Android 7.0 Nougat
Higher tier:
This model has very similar stats besides an upgrade with a half inch larger, 5.5in display as well as 3GB of RAM instead of 2GB like its lower tier model. It also has a slight increase with a 16mp primary camera.
Currently however, there have been leaks for the two “flagship” phones to be released. Originally reports claimed a 5.2in and 5.5in set, with 2K displays, as well as a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, and a whopping 22MP camera. However, with further leaks, those specs might be for future models.
Most recent leaks:
Lower tier:
· 5in Full HD display
· Android and (Windows 10 in select markets)
· 32GB of storage
· 2GB of RAM
· 8MP primary and 5MP front-facing camera
Higher tier:
· 5.5in Full HD display
· Android and (Windows 10 in select markets)
· 64GB of storage
· 3GB of RAM
· 13MP primary and 5MP front-facing camera
PRICE:
Original quotes for the two tier models ranged for $200 for the higher and $150 for the lower. However there have been sources claiming a possible price around $250-300. If this is true, and Nokia sticks to its quality claims, this will be a true rival budget smartphone in the market. However, recent sources have been quoted that it will be available in China (and most likely everywhere else) with an expected price of around $500. This sounds like a more accurate price for a mid-range smartphone which sounds very fair in my opinion, especially to rival the upwards of over $1000 for smartphones such as the iPhone 7 plus.
